History of H. Rocker Electric Co., Inc.

H. Rocker Electric Co., Inc. was established in 1946 by Henry O. Rocker, Sr. The business was incorporated in 1979 by his son, Henry O. Rocker, Jr., who led the company into the oil and gas field. During the 1980’s, and subsequent oil boom, more and more of the company’s billings were established through industrial work but commercial contacts were always kept viable. When the oil boom ended, commercial work once again became the forefront of the company and kept the business running through some hard economic times.

As the third generation became active in the business, diversity became the main goal for future growth. To that end, specialty systems work was pursued and ultimately became a large percentage of the company’s contracts. Lighting retrofit projects were also added to the company capabilities. While this diversification was ongoing, Oil and Gas work remained steady and active.

At present time, H. Rocker Electric Co., Inc. has the knowledge and personnel available to perform a variety of electrical services for its large customer base. In addition to normal power and lighting, capabilities include installation of 5KV cables and terminations, switchgear, motor control centers, transformers and panels with all power and control wiring, I/O and PLC free standing cabinets complete with required equipment, wiring and terminations. Rocker Electric also has extensive experience with furnishing and installing Fire Alarm and Gas Detection Systems, Music and TV Systems complete with Satellite Equipment, Battery Charging/UPS Systems complete with Batteries and Racks, Low Voltage AC or DC Systems, Telecommunications, PAGA and Radio Systems and HVAC Controls.

The company is capable of performing design/build projects through the use of in-house expertise and outside draftsmen and engineering firms. This capability provides customers with a turnkey project. This service has been performed on over (100) oil and gas projects, many of which required ABS and USCG approval.

Having access to trained employees is considered a vital aspect to the success of the company. As such, employees are encouraged to attend training through the use of company sponsored (4) year journeyman training programs as well as short-term continuing education classes. This, combined with excellent pay and benefits packages, keeps employee turnover low.

Safety is a number one priority for the management of H. Rocker Electric Co., Inc. In order to ensure employee safety, a complete overhaul of the existing safety program was undertaken in late 2000 and has been extremely successful. This successful safety record is accomplished in a number of ways, specifically, through the use of employee incentive programs such as Safety Bingo and Quarterly Bonus Programs, safety training, jobsite inspections, Lock-Out/Tag-Out, Assured Equipment Grounding Programs and input from field personnel. A Safety Committee was established under the new program and meets quarterly to discuss safety issues in the field and to plan and research additional training sessions for all employees.

Financially, the company has had a long and successful business relationship with Whitney National Bank, which includes checking, savings, loans and an open line of credit for use as needed. H. Rocker Electric Co., Inc is rated “3A2” with Dun & Bradstreet under Duns number 03-443-3938 and is fully insured with both USL&H and Maritime coverage. While the company is based in Louisiana, licenses are also held in Alabama, Florida, Mississippi and Texas.

The company has grown in many ways over the last (61) years since it’s establishment. What began as a small shop started in someone’s backyard now provides commercial, industrial and specialty services to many businesses in New Orleans and surrounding areas. Through it all, the Rocker family has managed the company with this simple mission:

It is the mission of this company to offer our customers honest, top quality service in a timely manner while providing our employees a safe and caring environment in which to work.
